Do you have daily rituals? In the past, when I heard the word ritual I would think of a religious ceremony. To someone who doesn’t subscribe to one particular religion, but handpicks ideas from several for my own personal spirituality, rituals didn’t mean much to me. But over time I realize for me, ritual has come to mean a moment of reflection. Something that takes you out of the fast lane for a moment and allows you to be with your thoughts.
For some it might be the afternoon up of tea or the morning coffee and cigarette. For others it might be daily meditation, prayer, yoga or even a focused workout. It doesn’t matter what your ritual looks like but I think it’s helpful to have at least one. I keep a notebook on my night stand and every morning, after I’m showered and dressed a take a moment to write on one page what I’m grateful for and what I’d like to focus on during this day. At night, before I go to sleep, on the back side of the same page I reflect on the day and end with a gratitude list.
If you don’t already have one already, try a few out. Find something that works for you and incorporate it into you day. Take care of yourself by taking the time to stop and reflect. It will enhance the colors of your day.
