One of my favorite songs HEROES (We Could Be) seems so relevant at the moment even though its been six years since it raced up the charts. Written by Swedish DJ Alesso the song features vocals by Swedish vocalist Tove Lo. In an interview with Billboard, Alesso said "When Tove Lo and I first started working together, she'd tell me about how she wanted to be different, to stand out as an artist. And on some level, I think everyone goes through that. As a teenager, I was always wondering about who I was, what was my identity, did I secretly wish I was someone else. But as you [age], you realize that it's not about being someone else."
Todays heroes are doing exactly what they do, what they’ve always done. But we never really took notice until we needed them like never before, until our lives depended on them. At a time when many of us are comfortably inconvenienced at home and worried that we are getting fat (because we have that much food) there are people risking their lives to show up for us. Each day healthcare workers, staff in grocery stores, delivery persons from restaurants, USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon and more are moving as fast as they can for us. They are superheroes for simply being themselves.
WE CAN BE HEROES TO OUR HEROES BY SIMPLY SAYING THANK YOU.
If you can afford to do more…. The next time you’re in a store which racks of gift cards, pick up a few Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc. They don’t have to be large denominations. But carry some in your pocket and when you meet one of these modern day heroes, say Thank You and hand them a gift card. You’ll be amazed at their reaction and that interaction will make you feel good all day!
